La Casona
This estate and its owners are high up on my list of best places to stay. All our clients love this house. You wind your way up a narrow, paved country road, quite close to the now famous Bramasole of Under the Tuscan Sun fame, through the terraced olive groves until the large gates opening to Casona Smeraldo and its newly restored sister house Casina Giada come into view.
La Casona is an imposing ivy-covered stone house with entrance from the paved panoramic terrace into a large living/dining room with big Tuscan fireplace, cable TV, stereo and telephone. Large glass doors open onto the furnished patio. On the ground floor is a study/bedroom and private bathroom.
There is an excellent and very well equipped galley-style kitchen with American style coffee-maker. An easy staircase opens from the entry hall and leads to the upper floor with two large double and air-conditioned bedrooms, one with queen size bed, one with two single beds, two bathrooms with shower, one of which is an ensuite to the twin bedroom. Centrally heated. Garage and fully equipped laundry room are located in an adjacent building.
From the 2012 season, La Casona will also be able to sleep 10 people, with the addition of a separate apartment with two bedrooms and one bathroom, located in the other half of the farmhouse. It has a separate entry and has been totally renovated and refurbished reflecting the same stylish decor and tasteful furnishings of both La Casona and La Casina. This apartment will not be rented separately, thus ensuring the privacy and exclusive use of the garden and swimming pool to occupants of La Casona.
The large swimming pool with lounging chairs and umbrellas is behind the main villa in a beautiful setting of ancient evergreens, oaks, pines, cypresses and linden trees. It is reached by a private pathway. The owners do not use the pool when guests are in residence in La Casona.
