We are happy to say that today this description is still true and Villa Rosa lies in the heart of the hill that is the home of the City of Cortona.
Villa Rosa is situated high on the hill, just below the fortress and Cortona city walls and is a much loved, recently renovated home. The outlook from the patio is across the valley towards Lake Trasimeno and the rolling Tuscan hills. It is a mesmerising, tranquil and special place. The beauty of this spot is that you enjoy a private setting nestled into the hill side in the heart of the countryside, but within walking distance of the vibrant City of Cortona with its excellent bars, restaurants, museums, churches and its popular passegiata (afternoon walk).
Villa Rosa sleeps four and is a two double bedroom, two bathroom home on two levels. The owners have renovated a deserted shepherd’s house, estimated to be about 400 years old, which now forms the bedroom area, and combined this with a new open plan living area to create a modern, comfortable and relaxing home.
The upper level accommodates a queen-size bedroom with views over the valley, a bathroom with shower, WC and wash basin; as well as the large open plan living area and kitchen, which leads directly out to the south patio, lawn and swimming pool.
The lower level contains the second double bedroom, which can also be set up as a twin room, an en-suite bathroom with tub, shower, WC and basin and the cantina, which houses the laundry and storage area. The décor is modern, with locally sourced wooden furniture.
Outdoor dining is a must in summer and a reed-covered pergola has a large wooden table that can accommodate 12 people. The pergola is the hub for summer living for dining outside. The pool is a short walk away with its own patio and lounging area.
The house is fitted with all modern facilities including dishwasher, fridge, freezer, washing machine, air conditioner (upper bedroom only) and hairdryer. There is good mobile cellular phone signal for those of you who cannot be without your Smartphone.
In the area you will find many activities to pursue while at Villa Rosa, wine tours, Tuscan cooking, walks, museums, eating at fabulous restaurants, and exploring the ancient cities of Cortona, Montalcino and Montepulciano with their wonderful Tuscan wines . It is an easy drive or train ride to Siena (40 min), Florence (1 hr), Rome (2 hours), Perugia (40 min) and Assisi (50 min) . . . or you can simply do nothing but sit by the pool and relax and enjoy the Tuscan sun.
